Reminder: Multiplication Quiz on May 23

Hi Students,

This is a reminder that you have a Math Assessment for Multiplication coming up.

Quiz date: Thursday, May 23

Here is what you are expected to know for the quiz, in case you'd like to review at home. You can use the resources on Google Classroom and re-read our class blog posts for help.

  • Solve 3-digit by 1-digit Multiplication equations using the strategies discussed in class:
    • "Breaking it Down" (Expanded Form)
    • "Draw Base Ten Blocks"
    • Long Algorithm
You will need to show the strategy and give the correct answer for each of these strategies.

If you have any questions, read the review below and/or reach out to Ms Elder.

Multiplication Strategies

For this strategy, you break down the number into its place value columns to make it easier to solve.

For this strategy, you use expanded form to make it easier to solve.
It is similar to the strategy above but uses numerals instead of pictures.

Base Ten Blocks
For this strategy, we draw out Base Ten blocks. You multiply the ones, tens, and hundreds, then add them all up.

Long Algorithm
For this strategy, you stack the numbers you're multiplying. You multiply the factor by the ones, tens, hundreds, and then add them up. Next week we will learn the standard "Short Algorithm" (after the quiz).
