Pieces of Me Project

The past two weeks, we have been working with Ms Elder on a project called Pieces of Me. The reason we are doing this activity is to show what is important to each of us. The people who are new to the school are still meeting us and they can learn about us and we can learn about them. Also, we were learning how to express ourselves through the objects in our jar. This is a chance for us to learn more about ourselves and practice our writing.

For this activity, there are two parts: the writing and the art

For the writing, we needed to describe each item and explain why it is important to us. Ms Elder was looking for descriptive language, and different sentence starters. We also checked our writing to make sure we included proper capitals and periods. We took this writing through the stages of the writing process: brainstorming, rough copy, conferencing with Ms Elder, and publishing in a good copy.

For the art, we needed to fill a jar with items that represent us. We thought of unique and interesting items. Some people put sand or tissue paper at the bottom to show their personalities and lift the objects up to make the objects look great.

"I learned that I can make something that shows who I am and my personality. I can find the items easily" ~ OO
"I liked that we got a chance to represent ourselves and show ourselves." ~ AK
"I liked that I could do something silly or awkward and no one would care." ~ GM
"I liked how we could get a chance to know people together." ~ Mary Jane
"I liked how we could represent ourselves, show who we are." ~ ATM
"I liked learning about others and their personalities." ~ KSR

We can't wait to show off our writing and our jars at today's Open House. Parents are welcome to drop in and see the classroom anytime between 3:30 and 5:00 today. Hope to see you there!
