Symmetrical Stained Glass Art
As a culminating project for our Light and Shadows and Geometry units, we are completing an art project that brings together Science, Math, and Art!
Lastly, we are applying our learning of Colour when choosing which colours to use for our artwork. We know that we can create a mood by using only warm colours (red, orange, yellow) or cool colours (green, blue, purple). Or, we could use complimentary colours to make our artwork really stand out. Complimentary colour pairs are: red and green, blue and orange, yellow and purple.
For this project, we have to make a piece of art that is symmetrical. Symmetrical means both sides are exactly the same (same colours and shapes). It is a mirror image (flipped).
For Math, we also need to be able to identify the names of the quadrilaterals that we use. Quadrilaterals are shapes that 4 sides and they are 2-Dimensional and 4 vertices.
For Science, we need to be able to identify the parts of our artwork that are opaque and translucent. Opaque means that light can't go through it. Translucent means that a little bit of light can go through it and it's a little blurry because the light rays refract as they go through it.

Here are some things we liked and learned from this project:
"I liked it because it was cool." ~ YD
"I liked that we used translucent paper." ~ Olivia
"I liked how it intertwines Science and Math and Art." ~ Yulia
"I liked how we used translucent paper because light can go through." ~ Pranay
"I liked how much effort you put on it for our learning." ~ Thanve
"I learned that the line of symmetry is important to a shape and the line of symmetry shows the item that is reflected on the other side." ~ Greta
"I really liked how when you have your finished product, you hold it up to the windows and the colours brighten up." ~ Oscar
"I liked how the colours would get vibrant in the light." ~ Henry
"I liked how we could use different colours and moods." ~ Zoya
"I liked that we got to choose any shape we wanted." ~ Asma
"I liked how we could put a torch and the paper and on the floor there will be a colour design and it's also symmetrical." ~ ZA
