Reminder: Simple Machines Test March 6
This is a reminder that you have a Science Assessment for Simple Machines coming up.
Test date: Wednesday, March 6
Here is what you are expected to know for the test, in case you'd like to review at home. You can use the resources on Google Classroom and re-read our class blog posts for help.
- Name the 6 different simple machines and provide examples of each (Lever, Wheel and Axel, Pulley, Incline Plane, Wedge, Screw)
- Label where the load, fulcrum, and effort are in various levers
- Understand and explain that by moving the fulcrum in a lever, the amount of force needed will be different to move the load, and the distance the load travels will be different
- Understand and explain that in incline planes, the smaller (gentler) the slope, the longer it will take to get between the two heights but the less work you’ll need, and vice versa
- Understand and explain that if you turn one gear in one direction, the gear beside it will turn in the opposite direction; predict which way a gear in a gear train will turn
- Correctly draw and label pulley diagrams (fixed and moveable)
