We began our journey to learn and grow as writers with dive into writing's importance.

Just How Old is Writing?

MJ - Writing is 6000 years old. 

GM - Writing started in 4000 BCE. Before writing is invented people would tell stories but stories would change. We invented writing so everyone knows how the story goes. 

ZA - We need language because what if there was no phones so then it was hard when people were in different places so we needed to write to send letters.

Mrs. J - Writing has been important to humans for so long!

MJ - It was really cool to see all of the different languages and how old writing is. 

OS - It was cool about the evolution (of language).

Why do we (humans) keep writing?

PB - nothing would make sense without writing. Language grew and grew. So we could all understand more if it was written down.

AK - to communicate.

GM - My grandma and grandpa are big travellers, they always send me letters and say how they are doing and how it's going.

OO - for text messages and maps and keeping track of things on calendars.

Zayn - We can also remember things like our mother's birthday. A memory can be lost. It's a copy to memorize. 

MF - on hospital charts for doctors to care for you. 

What do we love about our free writing journals?

HH - we can write almost anything we want, something that's fictional, anything we want. If I can write anything and don't really have to worry we can be free.

KSR - In India I had a book where I used to write stories, I lost it, when I came to this school this book inspired me again to write stories.

PB - When I write in my book I feel free. I'm in the page.
